What Happens To Us When We Die!

A Psychic Medium’s Reflection on the Spirit World, Dreams, and Consciousness Beyond the Body....

Death is often spoken of in hushed tones or avoided altogether, yet it is one of the few experiences we will all eventually share. In this post, I offer a gentle yet thought-provoking perspective on what may await us beyond this life—through the lens of mediumship, spiritual wisdom, and personal insight.

A Conscious Life After Death

From my experience as a psychic medium, I believe that when we die, our consciousness doesn’t simply end—it continues in a different form. We become an astral body, still very much “ourselves,” yet freed from the limitations of the physical world. In this state, we’re able to communicate directly with loved ones on Earth through thought—mind to mind. Spirit, in its purest form, doesn’t rely on language the way we do; thought is the clearest form of communication.

Dreams as Windows Into the Spirit World

I also explore the idea that our nightly dreams might not just be internal psychological processes—but journeys. What if each night we temporarily visit the spirit world? What if our dreaming selves—the astral form—are meeting with loved ones, spirit guides, and higher sources of inspiration? When we sleep, we may be closer to the other side than we realize. In these states, we can receive subtle guidance, healing, and wisdom that gently shapes our waking lives.

Spiritual Teachings That Support This View

These ideas are not mine alone. I draw inspiration from respected spiritual teachings and pioneering mediums who have devoted their lives to understanding life after death. The spirit teachings of Silver Birch (through Maurice Barbanell) and Ramadahn (through Ursula Roberts), along with the powerful presence of Gordon Higginson, offer consistent affirmations of our soul’s journey beyond this life. Additionally, the works of Michael Newton, especially Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls, provide a deeply researched look into the spirit world through case studies and regressions, painting a vivid picture of what our consciousness may experience after death.

A New Way to Understand Death

Rather than something to fear, death can be seen as a transition—a return to a state of expanded awareness, love, and connection. As J.K. Rowling wrote, “To the well-organised mind, death is but the next great adventure.” I invite you to reflect on this possibility: that we are more than our physical selves, and that our loved ones in spirit are never truly gone. They are closer than we think—often just a thought away.

Everything is consciousness Rhys. That's how spirit can influence our minds - not exactly mind to mind but consciousness to consciousness. Even rocks have consciousness to some degree and hold wisdom from the ages. The whole universe or multiverse is consciousness expressing itself - or God, Allah, Source or whatever your religious belief of the creator is.

Our minds can actually trick us to believe we are not worthy or to use old patterns of behaviour that no longer serve us, so we have to get beyond the mind in order to connect with spirit.

I believe our mind is there to allow our physical bodies to survive the best we can. It is a marvelous thing created for survival…
