They call it the “Hogwarts of the Spirit World,” and after spending a week immersed in its rhythms, I can see why. Arthur Findlay College (AFC) isn’t just a place—it’s an experience. Nestled in the English countryside, this grand old estate becomes a sanctuary for those seeking to deepen their connection with the spirit world. But what does a typical day here look like? Let me take you through it.
Morning: Awakening the Senses
The day begins with the sounds of birds echoing through the college grounds of Stansted Hall. As the sun rises over the manicured lawns, some students go for walks in the surrounding fields, admire the beautiful horses, meditate or do yoga in the beautiful manicured gardens, while others get that extra sleep to be energised for an exciting day of learning and working with spirit. Its not long before students gather in the dining hall for a hearty English breakfast. The aroma of freshly brewed tea and toast fills the air, mingling with the excited chatter of mediums and spiritual seekers from around the globe.
After breakfast, we convene in the main lecture hall. The morning sessions often start with a meditation or a short talk by one of the esteemed tutors. These sessions set the tone for the day, grounding us and opening our senses to the energies we'll be working with.
Midday: Deepening the Practice
Late morning is dedicated to either a lecture or tutorial followed by a workshop with practical exercises. Depending on the course, this could involve spiritual phlilosophy, mental mediumship, physical mediumship, platform demonstrations, spirit art, psychic development exercises, or spiritual healing. The tutors—many of whom are renowned mediums—guide us with both clarity and compassion.
Lunch is a communal affair. Gathered around long tables, we share stories and insights, forging connections that often last well beyond the week. The food is nourishing, both in flavor and in the sense of community it fosters.
Afternoon: Expanding the Senses
Afternoon sessions dive even deeper into practical learning. This is where the magic of personal transformation often begins. Whether you're learning how to blend with spirit, give one-to-one readings, or sharpen your clairvoyant faculties, you're given the space and support to push your boundaries in a safe and respectful environment.
Late Afternoon: Quiet Time for Integration
Later in the afternoon, there's space for personal reflection and integration. Many students find solace in the college’s gardens, journaling under the shade of ancient trees or meditating by the tranquil pond. Others gather in the library or common rooms to compare notes and decompress from the intensity of the work. It’s in these quiet, unstructured moments that some of the most meaningful insights often arise.
Evening: Communion with Spirit
Dinner brings us back together, and the evening sessions are often the highlight of the day. Demonstrations of mediumship by tutors—where they bring through heartfelt, evidential messages from spirit—leave many of us both moved and inspired. These evenings are filled with reverence, emotion, and the awe that comes from witnessing the unseen made visible.
Depending on the course, evenings may also include healing circles, Q&A panels with tutors, or opportunities for students to give short platform demonstrations in a supportive environment to put into practise what they have learn't from the day.
Night: Rest and Renewal
As the day winds down, students retreat to their rooms or gather in cozy corners of the Hall for late-night chats over tea or the cozy bar for an evening drink. Stansted Hall, with its rich history and spiritual atmosphere, seems to hum with quiet energy. Sleep often brings vivid dreams and a sense of being deeply held by the unseen world.
In Closing
Arthur Findlay College is more than just a place to learn about mediumship—it’s a place where something in you shifts. Each day unfolds like a journey, blending the practical with the spiritually profound. Whether you come for answers, connection, or simply to be in a space that honors the spirit world, you’ll leave with more than you expected—and likely a few new lifelong friends.
