I completely agree. The interpretation from the reader can be very different of something than what spirit is trying to convey and also the sitter may also misunderstand the information too which just complicates things further.
Have those who are already practising mediums seen a different, heightened expectation from your clients?
It sounds like it's already tough to convince people of life beyond death and these kinds of shows can raise the expectation bar quite significantly.
